Through a bibliographical research with the markers "drug trafficking", "Human Rights", "Social Vulnerabilities" and the analysis of all drug trafficking occurrences registered by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul in 2022, The present work sought to identify and analyze the main vulnerabilities and socioeconomic characteristics found among people arrested carrying drugs (called “trafficking mules”) caught by the PRF in Mato Grosso do Sul, in 2022, with the objective of contributing to the academic environment and point out public policies for social protection and promotion. Among the main vulnerabilities and socioeconomic characteristics observed, low education, unemployment, informality and occupation of low-specialization jobs are recurrent. The study also identified that although the majority of prisoners are male, the number of increasingly younger women who are involved in the transport of drugs is worrying. Public policies, especially in the area of education and professionalization, emerge as essential for a possible removal of delinquency.
