Abstract

For decades, studies on migratory transits conceived migrants as a uniform mass. This perspective was unable to understand the peculiarities of the migratory experience resulting from gender, race, ethnicity, etc., which is why the number of researches aimed at carrying out this analysis grew. This proposal is justified in the theoretical gap about the migratory transits of transgender people, understood as those who do not agree with the gender that was socially imposed on them. Therefore, the objective of this work is to present some questions regarding the migration of transgender people in contemporary times, especially in the face of the pandemic context. Thus, it begins by conceptualizing gender, cisgender and transgender from Butler (2004), Preciado (2004) and Jesus (2012). Therefore, it discusses the implications of being transgender today, exemplifying with Brazilian context and the data produced by ANTRA (2021). Finally, it uses Fonseca (2020) and Vale (2005) to make some considerations related to the migration of transgender people, exposing how the pandemic exacerbated the segregation suffered by this population. It concludes that the factors that influence the migratory experience of transgender people are multiple, which is why research aimed at understanding them should be encouraged. Only from this work effective social insertion of transgender immigrants could be articulated.
